Article Analysis: The Challenge of Change for Multinational Organization

Students in business administration discipline need to read a lot of book, in order to stick with the current situations and learn new things. Understanding the article structure and data presentation can help the readers able to read more effectively. The purpose of this paper is to observe how the authors narrate their information, for example, type of paper, the article structure, and data presentation. Analyzing business article benefits students in most discipline, including business administration, because the students are required to write academic article. This academic article, “The Challenge of Change for Multinational Organization” written by Victoria M. Grady, et al., was published on “The International Journal of Management and Business” in November 2014. The authors explained that one way for the companies to maintain their efficiency and effectiveness is to transform their organizations, which is possibly create risks and damages to the companies. In order to reduce the unfavorable effects from the organizational changes, many companies avoid the uncertain circumstances. In this way, the significant of organization transformation is established. As cited in Grady’s article, The Standish Group International (2009) et al. stated that “This fear of change is not unfounded, given that 70% of transition initiatives fail. (P. 97). It can be interpreted that a lot of previous research studied about the organizational change, but more than half of organizational change is unsuccessful. Moreover, there is no right method, model, or theory for the organizational changes. Therefore, creating customized transformation method for each company might be the most appropriate way, especially for the global organizations, which have high complexity (Duck, 1993; Kotter, 1995). The authors aimed to observe each company uncertainty from changes and enlarge the previous research by recommending the strategies to overcome the challenges from organizational transformation. This article would be applicable for the global organizations, which encountered continuous changes. The multinational organizations are supposed to develop their change management plan in order to operate the organization through time of uncertainty.

This research paper is a case study. The authors organized the paper by using the standard IMRD structure, which contains introduction, method, result, and discussion parts. This structure can help the readers navigate the article faster and understand the context more clearly. It allows the most relevant information to be presented reasonably to the audience, by explaining the research process with a good arrangement and excluding the unnecessary details. However, the authors added an additional part in this article, which is conclusion, in order to summarize all of the main points from the articles. Adding a conclusion is a good way for writers to recover all main points from the article to the readers through this part. Anyway, there is no specific writing pattern or convention in my discipline. The authors are opened to write in their own style as long as they can effectively deliver the important message.

The authors mostly summarize the information and present it in form of tables, which can be easily understand by the readers. The explanation for the table is also provided in case that some readers do not know how to read the information from the table or they need more specific detail about the information. As you may know, business administrators need to read and analyze a lot of information, in order to make precise decision and manage the company. The visualization is an effective way to present the information. It can make the business administrators understand more clearly, so that they can manage the company more accurately.

In thinking about the future, the same research should be done again after finished all change processes. Comparing two results from the research, the company is able to find a room for improvement. However, this research is good at directing the way for all companies. It listed all challenges from organizational change, exhibited the impacts, and provided reasonable recommendations to manage those impacts. This article also teaches me that every companies are distinctive, so they need their own customized change model. Therefore, the companies should specify their clear objectives or mission before doing any change in order to gain the highest benefits. With the obvious goals, the company can develop a better transformation plan. Furthermore, it is more challenging for the organizations with high complexity to transform their organization, especially for the multinational organizations. The conflicts and problems from cultural difference exist in most organization with high diversity. Those damages can be managed if the company creates dynamic change strategies and adjusts it to all parts within the company.
